Anchor Point Marine is owned and operated by Iain Forrest and Marjorie MacMillan.
Iain went to sea in 1974 and was a deck officer until 1989, serving on tankers, OBO’s, Bulk carriers, container ships, fishery protection cruisers and oceanographic research ships.
He also had a spell offshore as control room operator on an Aker H3 semi sub.
On coming ashore in 1989 he was lucky to be part of the early development of Clyde Marine Training.
He was responsible for recruitment and selection of trainees, administration and management of training programmes as well as liaison with colleges. Preparation of training budgets for client companies was also part of the job remit.
During this time he was company representative on the MNTB Technical committee for deck and engineer officer training.
After Clyde Marine he joined Bibby International Services in the Isle of Man to be the Chevron Shipping Marine Training Co-ordinator. In this position he directly reported to Chevron headquarters in San Francisco and San Ramon.
Iain was part of the team responsible for personnel on both the International fleet and the US fleet. An integrated mix of European and Asian nationals, representing some 17 different nationalities, manned the International fleet.
He worked with the Manning Office Managers in Europe (IOM), USA, Philippines and India on their cadet programmes and officer development and training programmes.
In this position the principal responsibility was to increase the productivity of seafaring staff. This was achieved through managing a variety of parameters
Ensuring training compliance of all seafarers.
Developing company specific training courses to meet identified need.
Preparation of Marine Training Budgets.
Oversight and approval of Training institutions used.
Monitoring quality of training outcomes and transfer of skills to the workplace.
Monitoring and follow – up of officer development needs.
During this period Iain began to be very interested in the gap between knowledge and behavior. Particularly in safety and operational areas.
Competent performance of complex operational and safety tasks relies on the close linkage of knowledge and behavior.
Productivity increases only if personnel behave as they know they should, and only then is money spent on training effectively and efficiently used. This led Iain to increase his knowledge of the psychology of human behavior and over a period of years gain qualifications in NLP, becoming an NLP trainer and coach in 2007 .
In 2003 and 2004 Iain set up Anchor Point Consultants and Anchor Point Marine Consultants.
Both companies are owned and operated by Iain and partner, Marjorie Macmillan (MA Hons, DACP, NLP Practitioner, Certified Hypnotherapist, AFBPS Chartered Psychologist).
Marjorie is a highly experienced psychologist who specializes in workplace related stress and the psychological causes of illness and disease.
Since then we have worked together and separately to deliver contracted services to a range of clients in different business sectors.
